Abrasive blasting / Sandblasting or Blast Cleaning is another crucial step in a surface preservation project.  In this step the dust, dirt, mil scale, rust, coating, oxides, corrosion products, laitance and other foreign matter is removed from the substrate.  Also, a surface profile is produced which creates more surface area on the substrate to achieve a strong mechanical bond to form with the newly applied coating or tank lining.  Stronger adhesion directly relates to the performance and lifespan of the coating system.

SSPC & NACE have established industry standards for the different levels of surface preparation.  Coating manufacturers then develop their specifications for surface preparation based off of the coating substrate and type of coating i.e., epoxy, polyurethane or polyurea. etc.

We ensure that we follow both industry and product specifications relating to surface preparation by testing the surface profile we created.

Depending on the substrate and jobsite conditions we have the ability to blast with the following media: silica sand, black beauty, baking soda, steel grit, glass beads and dry ice.
